My theory about Barney’s wedding…

Okay, so naturally I heavily ship Barney-Robin. They are obviously meant to be together.

HOWEVER, there is no way that the HIMYM writers are going to make it that easy for us, as much as I would adore to see Robin as the bride revealed in the s7 finale. I just think that would make it too obvious and not enough tension/drama throughout s8 leading up to the s8 finale/ actual wedding (where Ted meets the mother at last).

Also, Quinn has been signed for a multi-episode arc for s7, which has 7 episodes to go and she has so far only appeared in one. If the bride is being revealed during that seventh episode, what would be the point of bringing in Quinn for the meantime if it isn’t her? It also explains why Barney is unsure that he “picked the right tie” (because I don’t think he would be unsure about Robin), and why Lily is confused that the bride wants to see Ted (since I don’t think she would be confused about Robin wanting to see her best man, Ted, before she walks down the aisle, like she had planned with Ted). I think maybe tensions and jealousies become more apparent between Robin and Barney throughout s8 as he prepares to marry Quinn, but nobody acts on it, and at the wedding Quinn worries about this dynamic, and decides to consult Ted on it (since he’s always right in the middle of it), explaining why she wanted to talk to Ted. I know Barney is definitely getting married that day, but I think it will be much more complicated than that. I think maybe the Quinn/Barney wedding will be called off (an objection from Robin, perhaps?) and Barney will end up marrying Robin that day instead, because they’re so passionate about each other that they will just know it’s right.

I also do believe the mother is Barney’s half-sister, who Ted will meet at the wedding.

So to sum up, I think that in the s7 finale, Quinn will be revealed as the bride to torment viewers and not give everything away before the 8th and final season; that Robin/Barney tensions will escalate throughout the 8th season, and during the ACTUAL broadcasting of the wedding (naturally the s8 finale, because it’s when Ted meets the mother), the wedding will stop somehow and Barney will end up marrying Robin instead of Quinn.

I hope I clearly articulated this, because it makes a LOT of sense to me. (Although I hope I’m wrong and life is made a lot easier and Robin is revealed as the bride in the s7 finale because I’d like to breathe easy and contented that my ship is endgame… but in this convoluted show, that doesn’t seem likely.)

P.S. - Oh, and also when Quinn was introduced, she was wearing a PURPLE dress, which seems to be the wedding color (the color of Barney’s boutonniere as well as the decorative flowers) - further reinforcing why Lily’s pink dress did not match the wedding color scheme, because if the bride is not originally Robin, then Lily wouldn’t be a member of the wedding party.
